Unlike any other city in Italy, Milan has more in common with European cities further north. It is a bustling metropolis with fashionable boutiques lining the streets and wealthy businessmen and stylishly dressed locals hurrying about their daily lives. The city centre has many upmarket contemporary bars and restaurants and the Italian Stock Exchange is resident in the city. On the face of it Milan is a thriving modern business city but to regard it as being just that would be doing it a disservice. Explore a little further and there is much to be gained from a visit to Milan.
Food & drink in Milan
It wouldn’t be Italy without a strong focus on food and drink. As you might expect Milan has a sturdy culinary tradition, although it is different from other Italian regions. The best known dish is Risotto alla Milanese, which needs to be experienced in an authentic Milanese restaurant. Visitors will soon become aware, if they were not already, that some of the finest Pannetone cakes are made in Milan. The Peck delicatessen is worthy of a visit, serving a huge variety of food and wine since 1883. Wine tasting sessions in the city also attract great interest and offer interesting facts about the Lombardy wine region.
