Food & drink in Malgrat de Mar

Seafood lovers are in for a treat – Malgrat de Mar’s location on the coast means that fresh fish is incredibly popular and the town is full of seafood restaurants. Spanish dishes such as paella are popular but there is also plenty of Catalan cuisine available. You can try arròs negre – a rice dish made with cuttlefish or squid as well as fideuà – a seafood dish, very similar to paella except it is made with noodles. You may find fesol del ganxet, which are hook beans, in dishes – they are grown here and are a speciality in this area. Those with a sweet tooth will want to order Crema Catalana for dessert which is essentially crème brûlée. A popular drink here is café con leche, a Spanish coffee that is half strong coffee and half hot milk.

Beautiful beaches in Malgrat de Mar

There are two and a half miles of palm tree-lined beaches in Malgrat de Mar which is split up into three beaches. These are: Platja del Centre, Platja de l’Astillero and Platja de la Conca. All the beaches enjoy golden sand that leads down to calm, clear water. Centre Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, although Asterillo Beach tends to be the most popular and at Conca Beach you’ll find protected sand dunes. At Astillero beach, during the summer, you can swim out to the floating inflatable water park for an hour of fun, between sunbathing and swimming.

Things to do in Malgrat de Mar

Malgrat de Mar is one of the Costa Brava’s quieter resorts – it is the ideal spot to just lay down your towel and get stuck into a good book. But, if you are looking for something to do, there is plenty to explore and discover.

Funicular to Parc del Castell: There is a funicular that will take you up the hill to Parc del Castell. You can board this at the base of Carre de Passada and enjoy the view as you head up the hill. It’s free to travel on and an easy way to get to the top. At the top, as well as taking in the breathtaking views of the city skyline, you’ll also the Torre del Castell, a 14th-century tower that was originally built to be a watchtower.

Marineland: If you are looking for an adrenaline rush then take a break from sunbathing and cool down at Marineland. There are rides for thrill seekers such as Boomerang, Speed Boats, Black Hole and Magic Falls. But, if you are travelling with little ones there is a Kidzworld too as well as rides that are fun for kids and adults alike. While you are here you can also come face-to-face with the likes of sea lions and dolphins too.
