Fuengirola is known for having some of the best restaurants in the Costa del Sol. There are Spanish restaurants offering traditional dishes such as paella and tapas – the seafood varieties are the most popular. Chiringuitos are bars where you can enjoy locally caught fish right on the beach. Here you’ll find espetos – sardines that are grilled on a skewer over a fire on the sand. Seafood lovers can order pescaito frito which is a mixed fried fish platter – perfect for sharing and ideal to sample various types of fish. You’ll also find many restaurants in the centre of town. There is cuisine from across the world including Japenese, American, British and Indian – to name just a few. There are a wide range of beverages on offer at the bar but if you are looking for something traditional then order yourself a glass of sangria.

This part of the Costa del Sol enjoys five miles of sandy beaches and seven beaches, three of which are Blue Flag. The main beaches are Santa Amalia, San Francisco, El Ejido, Los Boliches, Las Gaviotas, Torreblanca and Carvajal. El Ejido – also known as Playa del Castillo is the first beach and Torreblanca extends to Benalmadena. The latter is the quietest beach while Los Boliches is one that has been awarded the Blue Flag and is among the most popular. Just off the coastline here, kids and adults alike will enjoy spending an hour on Costa Water Park. This floating inflatable course will provide a fun break from swimming and sunbathing. There are also plenty of watersports on offer and all the amenities you require including beach bars.

Many tourists head to this part of the Costa del Sol for its beautiful beaches. While you’ll no doubt want to soak up the sun on the sand and take a dip in the sea, there is so much to do in Fuengirola that you may want to plan a few activities into your itinerary too.

Explore Castillo Sohail: This Moorish castle dominates the town from high up on a hill. It dates back to 956CE although it changed significantly over the years up until the 12th century. Head up here and you’ll be almost 40 meters above Fuengirola and can take in the breathtaking views this provides. While you are here you can visit the small museum and make sure you check what is on, the castle hosts a number of cultural events throughout the year.

Bioparc Fuengirola: You’ll enter the rainforest at this park and visit the likes of Madagascar, Africa and Asia. This immersion zoo, as it is known, has recreated the natural habitats of its inhabitants who live side by side. These multi-species enclosures are rare for animal parks. As you wander around and see the 1,400 animals and 130 different species you’ll also see the baobab tree which at 25 metres is one of the largest artificial trees in the world. During the summer the park is open until midnight so you can see the animals by moonlight.
