Thanks to the local fisherman, the restaurants and tavernas of Kassiopi specialise in fresh seafood dishes. For example, Bourdeto is a sort of spicy fish soup made with red pepper and onions. Similar to the rest of Greece and Corfu, most menus in Kassiopi are dominated by dishes that hero olive oil, fresh vegetables and local cheeses. Don’t forget to end your meals with Metaxa brandy, arguably the world’s most famous Greek spirit. If you like the taste of liquorice, opt for ouzo instead.

Kassiopi provides instant to access to a handful of beautiful beaches (Bataria, Kanoni and Pipitos to name a few), each of which boasts stunning clear waters. There’s also pebbly cloves for the ultimate in serenity or large shingle bays that play host to numerous water sports. Walk north of the harbour for 10 minutes and you’ll find the main town beach known as Kalamonias – a pebble strip that’s tailor-made for sun-worshipping. Three tiny coves can also be found in between Kalamonias and the harbour, accessed via a narrow road lined with eucalyptus.

If you can tear yourself away from the stunning coastline, Kassiopi has an abundance of activities on offer for couples and families. There’s the nearby Aqualand waterpark for splashing around in the pool and the cultural delights of Kassiopi Castle – a remarkable Byzantine fortress.

Head to Corfu Town: The island’s elegant capital is home to a charming mix of Venetian, French and British architecture that dates back several centuries. Explore the Old Town’s warren of winding lanes for high-class museums, traditional tavernas and no fewer than 39 churches.

Visit a ghost village: Around five miles from Kassiopi, the abandoned village of Old Perithia awaits. All the homes were built during the 14th century in the Venetian style, which was popular in Corfu at the time. Either take a look around some of the old buildings yourself or book a tour guide who can tell you all about Old Perithia’s history.

Explore the coast’s other alluring beaches: Head further north of Kalamonias beach for the horseshoe-shaped Imerolia bay, which is typically a little quieter than those closer to the village. In the opposite direction, southeast of Kassiopi is Avlaki – a stunning deep bay with another picture-perfect pebble beach. Here you’ll also find sailing and windsurfing schools.
