After indulging, you’ll find bars serving everything from fruity cocktails to pints of Mythos and the country’s favourite spirit, Metaxa.

Kalamaki is a great spot for beach holidays thanks to its long sandy expanse and knee-deep waters which stay shallow a long way out. Stretching for three kilometres before finally merging with Laganas Beach, there’s plenty of room to spread out if you’re seeking comfortable sunbathing sessions. There isn’t a great deal going on here aside from a taverna where you can grab a cold beer or an ice cream. As a breeding ground for Loggerhead turtles, look out for baby hatchlings making their way to the sea. The beach scenery doesn’t alter much if you continue all the way to Laganas Beach, but you may bump into greater crowds.

Holidays in Kalamaki may be laid-back compared to its lively Laganas neighbour, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be stuck for things to do. Most people spend their days hitting its idyllic shoreline, while others prefer to browse the many souvenir shops or sample the finest local cuisine from its family-run tavernas. If you’re holidaying with kids in tow, you’ll be happy to learn the resort also comes with a crazy golf course and go-karting track.

Get competitive with a game of crazy golf: If there’s one thing that unites all families – it’s a game of crazy golf! And Kalamaki Crazy Golf is no basic attraction with a choice of two 18-hole courses guaranteed to excite players. Right in the heart of the resort, not only is the landscaping beautiful, but there’s plenty of challenges to be had with rocks and water features standing in your way. When you’re not searching for your missing ball, look out for the many tropical fish swimming in its ponds. There’s even a bar on the course, where the loser can buy a round of drinks at the end, unless they’re too small to do so.

Stay up late in Laganas: If you consider yourself a hardcore partier, then Laganas is just 5 minutes down the road – the perfect distance for a night on the tiles. Declared the island’s clubbing capital, the bar scene is pulsating as soon as the sun goes down. The strip is where most of the action takes place, while yachts shindigs and beach clubs are also popular. With so many venues, it’s hard to know where to head first, especially if it’s your first time. Waikiki Club, Chevy’s and Rescue Top Bar are just a few names to look out for.
