Food & drink in Rhodes

For an authentic taste of Rhodes, be sure to sample a plate of pitaroudia. These falafel-like fritters made from chickpeas, tomato and mint make for a wonderful lunch or dinner – try them with a cold glass of Mythos, the refreshing Greek beer. Matsi is another must-try on your Rhodes holiday. Essentially Greek pasta, you’ll find Matsi with a variety of toppings, including syvrasi – crispy fried onions. There’s even a dessert version called matsoalo made with milk, sugar and cinnamon. For a sweet treat, grab a bag of loukoumades to share after dinner. These deep fried honey balls with cinnamon are loved by all ages in Rhodes and beyond. If you’d prefer something a little less sugary, try mouhalebi, a light and creamy panna cotta, perfect with Greek coffee.

Beautiful beaches in Rhodes

Half an hour south of Rhodes Town, Tsambika Beach is one of the island’s most beautiful stretches of shoreline. You’ll discover soft, golden sand, and clear water for swimming. Shallow for a good distance out, Tsambika is ideal for littles ones, with plenty of cafes and shops lining the beach. Near Faliraki, the village of Afandou boasts 2.5 miles of pebble beach, and incredible bright blue water. Older kids and adults are sure to enjoy the many exciting water sports on offer, including banana boating and jet skiing. Lindos beach is arguably the prettiest on the island. This crescent-shaped bay with blue-green water is like something out a fairy-tale, complete with a hillside village and medieval castle. Amazing history in Rhodes

Lindos Acropolis: This amazing acropolis should be a must-see on any Rhodes holiday. This impressive ancient citadel built in the 1300’s shows off the Temple of Athena, and a medieval castle built by the Knights of St. John. As a bonus, you’ll be treated to magnificent views over Lindos Bay – bring the camera!

Rhodes Old Town: A UNESCO World Heritage Site – it's an enchanting step back in time the whole family will love. The centrepiece is the Palace of the Grand Masters, a grand citadel that started life in the 7th century. Don’t forget to climb the castle walls for a birds-eye view of the ancient streets and stone buildings.

Kamiros Ancient City: This should be high on your list of can’t-miss Rhodes attractions. Built in the 10th century BC, it’s one of the biggest and most complete ancient cities in the world, home to Greek temples and a stunning hilltop acropolis. Fun days out in Rhodes

Butterfly show: If your holiday takes you to Rhodes between May and September – you’re in luck. This is when millions of multi-coloured butterflies land in Petaloudes Valley to escape the summer heat. It’s a spectacular show all ages will adore. Even out of season, it’s a beautiful place to visit, full of valley streams and cascading waterfalls.

Kayak safari: It's a great way to explore the island’s stunning coastline. You’ll be picked up from your resort and taken to a beach to learn the ropes, before heading out to find exciting sea caves. Paddle on to famous Anthony Quinn Bay for lunch before stopping for a snorkel on the way home.

Water park: At Faliraki Water Park you get to experience one of the biggest – and best – waterparks in the world. Adrenaline junkies will love taking on the might of Free Fall and Turbo Slide, while families get to have a blast on the lazy river and mat racers. Pay a visit to Tipping Tower, a giant bucket splasher with over 2,500 litres of water!
