With a wide range of culinary delights on offer in Dalaman, food lovers will be in their element. To sample the local cuisine, head straight to one of Dalaman’s rustic restaurants or traditional tavernas, where minced meat, fish and veggies are perennial favourites. A popular local staple, karniyarik can be found throughout Dalaman. This delectable dish is made from aubergines stuffed with minced lamb, pine nuts, and dried fruits. It’s best enjoyed in the summer, when aubergines are in season, and goes well with a cold glass of the local beer, Efes Pilsener.
Another top eat is hunkar bedendili kofte. These juicy meatballs are marinated then grilled, and served up alongside a delicious puree of smoked aubergine and cheese. Try them with raki, the famous Turkish alcohol with a hint of aniseed. For those of you with a sweet tooth, you have to try the Turkish Delight, or lokum as is called in Turkey. These colourful treats are traditionally flavoured with rose water, but you’ll find an array of exciting flavours including pistachio and dates. They make excellent souvenirs for friends and family at home.
