Palma de Mallorca Holidays

Paella is one of Spain’s most famous dishes but the meal, usually served with rice, is presented a little different in Palma de Mallorca. Renamed fideua, the local paella is made with noodles instead – and there are some incredible beach-side restaurants if you want a view of the sunset while having your evening meal. It’s quite common for the restaurants in Palma to have an outdoor dining area, which has proven very popular with locals and tourists.

If you’re heading out into the clubs for the evening, a cocktail and tapas bar may be the right thing for you. There are dozens in Palma, but particularly in the centre – and they remain busy with partygoers all year round. A lot of the alcohol in Mallorca is local, with their wine coming in from their vineyards. You may be used to beer at home, but while you’re in holiday mode, it’s worth sampling some of the fine wines.

There are a number of beaches in Palma, which is great if you’re after something a little bit quieter. However, for those of you that love a busy beach, one of the most popular is Cala Major Beach, which is just a short walk from the city centre. If you dream of clear blue sea without the populated surroundings, Palma Nova is the perfect place for you. Although it’s just a short drive from Magaluf, it remains the ideal destination for families. Tourists will have the ability to rent sun loungers and parasols while having a cocktail at one of the many bars by the beach.

As the capital city, Palma is filled with endless activities and things to see including landmarks, aquariums and beaches. While you can be kept busy in the evening with the endless bars, restaurants and nightclubs, the daytime activities should definitely land a spot on your itinerary.

Palma Aquarium: If you’re feeling particularly brave, you’ll find yourself yearning for some extreme activities, and the Palma Aquarium has plenty. Put on your scuba diving suit and go swimming underwater with sharks or snorkelling with stingrays. It’ll definitely be a talking point when you get home. Alternatively, if you’re not quite comfortable diving with sharks, you can always head into the shark boat and watch them swim below you.

Royal Palace of La Almudaina: The Royal Palace of La Almudaina is one of the most historic buildings in Palma, and as it’s situated right in the centre, it’s an easy place to stop by for a stroll. The castle was built between 1305 and 1314 and has remained an important aspect of the culture, with tourists constantly returning for a visit all year round.
