Food & drink in Bugibba

Authentic Maltese food enjoys a beautiful mix of Italian, British, Spanish and French cuisine, all thanks to its diverse history. Traditional recipes are passed down throughout generations and made with the freshest produce. Before McDonald’s and KFC came on the scene in the 90s, guests would dine on grilled swordfish steaks and rabbit stews. Mezze platters can be found in many of its waterside restaurants including Surf N Turf, whose 5 star reviews on TripAdvisor speak for themselves. Pizza is a popular snack choice and for the cheesiest slice in Bugibba, we recommend La Nava Bistro. It’s essential to try Cisk, the most popular locally brewed beer and the smoothest, which will go down a treat on those scorching days.

Best beaches in Bugibba

Renowned for its watersports, Bugibba Beach is a man-made sand spot leading out to the Mediterranean. Although easily accessible and ideal for sunbathing stints, the best beaches can be found 10 minutes away including Mellieha, which is the longest in Malta. This one-kilometre stretch is made up of shallow bays with water ideal for mini swimmers and it’s teeming with facilities including sunloungers, showers and surrounding eateries. Golden Bay is another must, here you’ll have access to diving and snorkeling expeditions and if you’re already experienced you can simply rent the equipment onsite. For seclusion, Ghajn Tuffieha is surrounded by towering cliffs which gives you the illusion of being on a deserted island, especially once you clap eyes on its flawless golden sands.

Things to do in Bugibba

From its child-friendly waterpark to its Gozo and Comino boat trips and Blue Lagoon deep sea dives, there’s plenty of allures to keep you entertained. One of Malta’s few cinemas is located in Bugibba, not to mention there’s a casino and if you pick your travel time right, you may witness a party or two at Cafe del Mar.

St Paul’s Bay: On your doorstep you have the resort of St Paul’s Bay which is celebrated for its historical landmarks and natural marvels. Wignacourt Tower is a major highlight as it was one of the first six towers to be built under the reign of Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt and was constructed back in 1610, making it the oldest surviving tower on the island. Xemxija is another enchanting find with a nature reserve called is-Simar at its core. But you have to visit the aquarium and Classic Car Collection Museum during your stay.

10 minutes from Valletta: With culture at its core and the island’s capital, day trips to Valletta are essential. Prepare to be in awe of its 16th century St. John’s Cathedral, Grand Master’s Palace and Upper Barrakka Gardens, just to name a few of its one-of-a-kind attractions. This walled city is also a proud UNESCO World Heritage Site which is hardly surprising owing to its exquisite architecture and jaw-dropping harbour with 7,000 years of history. Head here during February and March for its oldest annual festival and watch as its cobbles are filled with street performers, fancy dress, parade floats and marching bands.
