There’s a reason foodies flock to Greece, and that is its great tasting local dishes. Porta Rossa is another must-try, attracting visitors from all over the island with its romantic ambiance and high-quality cuisine. Grilled halloumi, sea bream and chocolate fondue to finish are just some of its delectable options.

Measuring 500 metres in length, this slender stretch is home to a choice of tavernas alongside an array of watersports with a centre offering plenty of splash-filled thrills. water-skiing, wakeboarding and paragliding all take place here. Or, if you prefer something a little tamer, its transparent waters are perfect for diving adventures. A short drive away awaits Kolios Beach, which is often described as one of the best on the island thanks to its mixture of delicate sands and gentle waters. When you’re not soaking up the sun from the sand, you can always perch yourself at one of its beach bars and enjoy those warm rays with a cold drink in hand.

Although one of the island’s more peaceful spots, there’s never a dull day in Achladies. At the centre of the action sits its well-equipped beach where you’ll find a choice of tavernas. If lazing on the shoreline or exploring its green surrounding becomes a little monotonous, Skiathos Town is just a five-minute drive away, while boat trips are on hand for alternative beach days. If you want to revisit the history of Skiathos, the Monastery of Evangelistria is a short drive from Achladies. Holding a special place in the local’s hearts, this is where the first Greek flag was waved during the 18th century. Located on the mountainside, this stunning structure can be seen from the sea and was originally founded by the Athos monks. Inside you’ll find a museum displaying costumes and weapons, but you can’t come here without paying its shop a visit. Selling a range of homemade goods, purchase wine, liqueurs, honey, olive oil and even herbs.

Staying in Achladies means you’re conveniently close to Skiathos Town, so what better way to hit this hotspot than via the water? With water taxis every hour from Achladies Bay, this is hands down the most scenic route. When you’re not admiring this cosmopolitan capital for its Hollywood credentials after its starring role in the blockbuster film Mamma Mia, its waterside tavernas, abundance of shops and family-friendly beaches make for an incredible day trip. And if you happen to head here after-dark its bar scene is just as captivating.
