Things to do in Mexico

Mexico offers a little something for every type of traveller, whether you simply want to put your feet up and soak up the sun or tie up your hiking boots and explore the natural world around you.

Experience the Day of the Dead: Painted skulls and vivid colours are perhaps what we associate most with Mexico’s annual Día de Los Muertos event. Families in Mexico celebrate the lives of those who have passed on, leaving offerings on an ofrenda (altar) for the spirits of their family members to enjoy in the afterlife. Marigold petals brighten up the streets and paths as they are scattered to guide the deceased back to their resting places once the night is over. It’s a celebration to see for yourself and one you won’t forget.

Visit the famous Chichen Itza: Standing for over 1,000 years, these impressive ruins of an ancient Mayan city are a must-see while in Mexico. See the majestic Temple of Kukulkan with its 365 steps, one created for each day of the year. Plan your trip on the spring or autumn equinox to see the incredible shadow spectacle created by the temple that looks like a serpent climbing up the steps. Take a walk around the area where you can also see where the people who once graced this great city played games and lived and worked.

Explore Xcaret Park: For those who want to see a wilder side to Mexico, Xcaret Park is the ideal destination. Take a dip in an underground river, sample local wines in the park’s dedicated wine cellar or see how the Mayan’s lived in a village recreated to represent their daily lives and customs. Kids will love the park too, with a dedicated children’s area featuring slides, bridges and tunnels for them to explore. Consider Mexico for your next long haul trip and experience a whole new world of culture and intrigue. Make memories that last and immerse yourself in everything this rich and exciting country has to offer.
