Food & drink in Cozumel

There are Tiki style bars aplenty in Cozumel, serving up tasty Mexican dishes including tacos and empanadas, perfect when washed down with a Mexican beer or margarita. If you love your seafood, expect incredibly fresh and tasty dishes featuring recently caught fish. The bacon-wrapped shrimp at Woody’s Bar and Grill on the northeast side of the island is apparently one of its most popular dishes.

Beautiful beaches in Cozumel

There are plenty of places to spend a day in the sun on the island of Cozumel. Its coastline boasts clean, sandy beaches and azure waters to take a dip as the day heats up. The east coast is considered to be the quieter side of the island. This means if you’re looking for a truly peaceful beach, then make your way to the sheltered Playa Bonita or Playa Chen Rio that’s popular with swimmers and snorkelers.

Things to do in Cozumel

While things move a little slower on this tranquil island, it doesn’t mean there is less to see or do. Choose from these activity ideas and experience more during your visit.

Explore the island’s Ecopark: Punta Sur Eco Beach is where you can see exotic wildlife in its natural environment. Keep your eyes peeled for crocodiles and sea turtles basking in the water, as well as exotic birds and a myriad of unusual plant life. Pay a visit to the park’s lighthouse and climb its steps for incredible views – on a clear day, you may be able to see the coast of Cuba!

Visit a pearl farm: Book a tour to see where local pearls are farmed for use in jewellery and embellishment. You’ll snorkel to see where the pearls are grown and lunch and drinks are included after. It’s the perfect excursion to get away from the usual routine and learn something new at the same time.

Take a walk around the capital: Skip the beach for the afternoon and head to Cozumel’s capital, San Miguel. Head to the central park in the evening to people watch and enjoy the street performers that set up to entertain visitors and earn tips. It can be busy in this area when a cruise ship is docked but is still definitely worth a visit.
